Hi Cindy. I was curious about your membership club. I am a mother of two young children and hardly have time to workout. I spend my day running the kids around and taking care of them, but I do have a few hours a week to spare where I could workout. I do not have time to go to the gym! Do you have any workouts I can do at home? I need help!

Thank you for e-mailing me. You have taken the hardest step and that is to ask for help. I am very proud of you! To answer your question, yes I do have workouts you can do at home. Dear Cindy,

I need to tighten up my stomach. I need to lose weight as well but hate to see my stomach jiggle. Besides needing to lose weight, would stomach exercises help to reduce the flab and tighten up my stomach? I’ve heard that stomach exercises alone will not give you a flat stomach. Is that true?

Dear Rochelle,

That is absolutely true. You can do crunches until you are blue in the face, but if you have two inches of fat covering that 6-pack, you will never reap the reward of seeing those tight abdominals. Of course it is very important to do stomach exercises to strengthen your abs, but it takes a little more then just that. The ab workout that I have developed is a great way to tone and tighten the actual abdominal muscles, but the flab you are experiencing is not the muscle, it is the fat around the muscle. You will need to work on your diet a little bit, by eating a lower fat, low sugar and low starchy carbohydrate diet and picking up a bit more protein. The general public tends to eat almost all carbohydrates and overlooks protein. Find out more about nutrition and diet by clicking on the JBN website. The other component to losing the flab is by incorporating cardiovascular exercise along with circuit training. Check out the exercises in my BuildingBetterBodies.com membership club for more ideas. When incorporating these three components; diet and nutrition, ab toning exercises and cardiovascular exercises you will be thrilled to experience the tight stomach you have been longing for.

How long have you been a fitness competitor? I am interested in getting into fitness competitions, but I’m not sure where to start. Can you offer any suggestions?

Dear Amie,

I started competing in 1996. I was much like you at the time, and didn’t know anything about fitness competitions. I was approached by the promoter of the NPC Indianapolis Body Building and Fitness Show. He asked me if I would be interested in competing in the Show. I had never seen one and knew nothing about it. So you are already ahead of me, since you know what they are. There are different fitness competition organizations with different criteria, but for the most part the rounds include a fitness routine, a physique round with a two piece swimsuit, a physique/aesthetic/beauty round with a one piece swimsuit, possibly an evening gown round or physical strength round. There are also obstacle course competitions. You should first decide which organization you want to compete in, then you can join my BuildingBetterBodies.com fitness club and learn everything you need to know about fitness competitions. Believe me, it is very challanging but super fun and one of the most rewarding things you will ever do.

I’ve noticed on your website that you did a fitness show on FOX. Do you have those shows available on tape? I am a member of your Fan Club and just love all the exercises and workouts that are available. I thought the fitness show exercises would just add to all the information I get from the Fan Club.

I’m sorry, but unfortunately the network owns those tapes and they are not for sale. However, with such a high demand I am currently starting a series of home workout videos. The first one will be available in the summer/fall of 2002! Stay tuned, and I will keep you updated!
